Fairtrade Australia & New Zealand supports a First Nations Voice to Parliament.

Fairtrade Australia & New Zealand accepts the invitation of the Uluru Statement from the Heart and supports a First Nations Voice to Parliament to be enshrined in the Australian constitution.

The Voice is about recognising and respecting 65,000 years of Indigenous culture and tradition for the very first time in Australia’s 122-year-old constitution. It will give Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people a say on the issues that affect their communities. This referendum is a request directly from Indigenous Australians that has been decades in the making.

Fairtrade’s vision is a world in which all producers can enjoy secure and sustainable livelihoods, fulfil their potential and decide on their future. We work with over 2 million farmers and workers in developing countries worldwide. Our global system is co-owned by Fairtrade producers and we strongly believe that when we listen to people about the decisions that affect them, we get better results.

On 14 October, Australians will have the chance to shape history. It is time that we stand together as a nation and use our vote to say Yes to recognition, listening, and respect.
