Write to your favourite chocolate brands

One of the best ways to show solidarity with the children working in child labour is to push for brands to change their supply chain. Use our handy template to send an email directly into the inbox of your favourite chocolate. Remember, they supply what you demand! Copy and paste the paragraph below in your email:

Dear [name] ,

I love your chocolate and I care about the people who make it. It is important to me that chocolate companies pay their workers a FAIR price so that their children aren’t forced into labour.

Child labour is a problem that affects one in ten children around the world. And the chocolate industry is one of the worst perpetrators. Right now, more than 1.56 million children are involved in the cocoa industry in Ghana and Cote d’Ivoire.   

The majority of cocoa workers cannot afford to live in decent housing, eat healthy food or go to the doctor. They even struggle to send their kids to school. A fair price is not a luxury, it is a fundamental human right.

I would like you to tell me what you are doing to address child labour in your products and I would like to start paying a FAIR price, until then I’ll be looking for the Fairtrade Mark on chocolate I choose to eat, that way I know that farmers receive at least a Minimum Price and non-negotiable Premium, which is paid on top of the price.
